Police investigate after Fife driving instructor's car is deliberately set alight

Linda Gavin, who lives on Hendry Crescent, runs a driving school called Linda’s Learners.

But her livelihood is now in jeopardy after someone deliberately targeted the Ford Fiesta she uses to teach her students.

Linda told FifeToday she was alerted to the fire by her son.

She said: “My son woke me at 11.30pm last night shouting that my car was on fire.

“The fire brigade was already there after a neighbour had called them.”

Linda says she spotted an irn-bru bottle with what looked like a rag inside of the burnt-out car.

In a post to her business page on Facebook Linda said: “I don’t think I have enemies, I certainly don’t make enemies. I go to work to try and improve people’s life by helping them gain their driving licence.

“If anybody knows anything about it please let me know.”

She also apologised to her clients who will now be left unable to take lessons.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that one appliance was called to the fire at 11.30pm. They extinguished the blaze, which had also spread to a Mini Cooper, in 15 minutes.

Police Scotland confirmed it was investigating an incident of wilful fireraising.

A spokesman said: “Police in Fife were called to Hendry Crescent in Kirkcaldy around 11.30pm on Wednesday (April 13) following a report of a car alight.

“A Ford Fiesta was subject to an act of wilful fireraising, and a Mini Cooper parked nearby was also damaged as a result.
